Mary Ann P. Cappelletti

August 11, 1954 - September 22, 2016

Farmington Hills, MI:  Mary Ann (Prendergast) Cappelletti, 62, formerly of Woodstock, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Sunrise Memory Care Unit of Farmington Hills, Michigan, after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born August 11, 1954 in Port Ewen, NY, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Huffner) and the late William Prendergast.  A 1972 graduate of John A. Coleman High School, she attended Fairfield University where she graduated in 1976 cum laude, with degrees in Mathematics and Economics.  She was employed for 39 years by the International Business Machine Corp, starting as a System Engineer in Manhattan, NY, continuing to Director of Software Services in Research Triangle Park, NC, and finally rising to the level of Vice President, System Technology Group, with responsibilities that spanned worldwide from Asia to Europe.  In her capacities, she never failed to assume mentorship roles, serving on various ad hoc committees that addressed the need for increased opportunities within the business community for minorities of all races and genders.  She is consistently remembered by her business peers as a patient, caring, thoughtful co-worker, one without guile, one whose ambition never overrode the abundance of patience and respect she held for all of those with whom she worked.

A true child of the Hudson Valley, she was an expert seamstress and avid gardener, who loved taking her then young children to pick produce and fruit for canning, or to various farms to cut the yearly family Christmas trees, which were always adorned with hundreds of ornaments culled worldwide during her travels.  She lived her life governed and tempered by the maxims that “doing” was strongest way of demonstrating true love for the ones held most dearly, and that the patience of mutual respect was the most appropriate manner of governing one’s actions.

Her survivors include her husband of 39 years, Robert Cappelletti, her son Michael Joseph (Elizabeth) of Novi, Michigan, daughter Maryssa Lauren of Brooklyn, NY, brother Michael of Erie, CO, sister Malina Melville of Ulster Park, NY, and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A mass for the repose of Mary Ann's soul will be offered at Sacred Heart Church (Esopus, NY) at 10:00am on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

The family respectfully requests that donations be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association, at www.alz.org, in Mary Ann’s name.
