Mary M. Raymo

May 3, 1918 - February 14, 2017

RAYMO, Mary Martha age 98 passed away February 14, 2017. Loving wife of the late Donald C. Raymo. Devoted mother of Retired Chaplain Lt. Col. Michael (Muriel) and Kathleen Raymo. Cherished grandmother of Michael Patrick (Tara) and Mark Raymo and great grandmother of Samuel, Hudson, and Sofia Raymo.

Mary Martha Hamenstafer was born to Robert and Edna Hamenstafer on May 3, 1918 at home in Springfield, Ohio. She was the younger sister to Charles. When Mary was 3, her father moved the family to Detroit, Michigan seeking employment with the Ford Motor Company.

Music was a passion and a gift she received from her parents. Mary enjoyed singing in school and in her church choir as a soloist. She took private voice lessons and sang professionally for The Detroit News and area radio stations. She especially liked the classics and traditional hymns.

Mary attended Cooley High School and graduated in 1936. She went to work at Gorham Tool Co. in Detroit as a secretary, where she met Donald C. Raymo. They were married on May 15, 1945. She and Don were blessed with two children; Mike and Kathleen and later two grandsons; Michael Patrick and Mark. God also blessed Mary with three great grandchildren; Samuel, Hudson, and Sofia.

Mary loved her family and was a full time mother. She actively participated in Cub Scouts, teaching Sunday school, and other school activities with her children. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She also liked her backyard garden (her favorite flower was the lily-of-the-valley). After Don retired, Mary and Don enjoyed traveling together. She was a cancer survivor and had recently lost her sight. However, she always remained positive and hopeful and kept her strong faith in God. She will remain in our hearts forever.
