Mary Therese Ugorowski

October 12, 1927 - July 28, 2017

Mary Therese (Adam) Ugorowski

Mary Therese died peacefully with family on July 28th and was surrounded by family in her last days.  She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

She was born October 12, 1927 to Loretta (McDonald) and Ralph J. Adam in Detroit, Michigan. She was the oldest of three children, sister to James and the late Neil. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Dearborn in 1945 and attended Wayne State University. She married the late Edwin Ugorowski at Sacred Heart Church on June 1953. During their 61 years together, they raised six children; Rosemary (Steve), Thomas (Marci), Sheila, Bridget (Paul), Joseph Anthony and Edwin Bernard, Jr (Wendy). She embraced nurturing the children, including sewing their clothes, choosing educational toys and healthy foods such as ice milk instead of ice cream, and celebrating Catholicism throughout. Some of her most memorable times were road trips in station wagons to family reunions in Westport, Canada and the Eastern USA.

She inherited her love of gardening from her mother. Flower gardens and gardening was one of her enduring passions. She enjoyed healthy gourmet cooking, often introducing many unusual foods to family and friends. She has bequeathed her large collection of cookbooks and recipes to her descendants. She attended cooking classes up to the very end!

In addition to gardening, Mary spent countless hours researching her family genealogy.  Her search included a lengthy trip to Ireland to discover details and meet relatives. She mastered driving on the wrong side of the road! She and Ed enjoyed many evenings at the Irish Gaelic Club in Detroit.

She was blessed with eleven grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives: Elise, Adrienne, Peter, Breanne, Niklas, Natalie, Sarah, Ryan, Adam, Noah and AniRose.
