Fr. Maurice McNeely

February 13, 1930 - July 29, 2017

Fr. Maurice G. McNeely died on July 29, 2017 in Michigan. Fr. McNeely was born in Wyandotte, MI on February 13, 1930. He was ordained to the Catholic Priesthood June 7, 1958 in Detroit, MI by Cardinal Mooney. He served his Priesthood in North Dakota for ten years then as a Military Chaplain for another ten years including a tour in Vietnam (1969-1970) where he was awarded numerous medals including two Bronze Stars. He lived in Hawaii for over 30 years and was a Priest of the Diocese of Honolulu. He loved the Hawaiian Islands and its people.

Fr. McNeely was the pastor of Holy Family Church and Catholic Academy in Honolulu for 14 years. He was the co-founder of the Hawaiian Beach Mass at Ft. DeRussy in Waikiki with Msgr. Roy Peters.

Fr. McNeely is survived by his sister Margaret ‘Peggy’ Mara of Farmington Hills, MI as well as his cousin Peggi Wirth of Royal Oak, MI, eight nieces and nephews, many grand nieces and nephews, many cousins, and many special friends (Hanai-extended Family) that were like his own family.

A Mass will be celebrated Saturday 10am at Most Holy Trinity Church, 1050 Porter St, Detroit, MI 48226 followed by the burial of his cremated remains at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, MI. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Honolulu, HI at a later date.
