Edna M (Hricko) Grainer 3/23/1924 - 7/30/2017

Let us tell you about this wonderful woman who lived her life lovingly as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, teacher and exemplary human being.

Born in Cleveland, OH to John Gerald Hricko and Minnie Irene Clements, Edna was baptized at the Miles Avenue Church of Christ in Cleveland, along with her older brother Robert Hricko. Edna attended The Ohio State University as an art major during WWII, leaving her formal studies to marry Francis Westland Grainer when he returned from the war. Between semesters Edna performed typographical drafting for the Army Map Service and hand lettered cockpits of bomber airplanes. As an adult, Edna painted several large-scale murals in public buildings. After retiring from years of working as a special education paraprofessional in the Farmington District Public schools, Edna took the opportunity to travel throughout Europe. For many years she enjoyed having an art studio in her home where she worked with stained glass, ceramics and sketches. 

Five of Edna’s six children, nine of her ten grandchildren plus two great grandchildren survive her.

Eddie’s calm, supportive demeanor and unfailing good will and humor was a great gift to her extended family and friends. She will be missed, but her smile lives in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 5th from 1pm until 6pm with Prayers and Eulogies at 4pm at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Road, Farmington Hills. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital
