Kenneth S. Koenig

June 25, 1930 - February 24, 2018

Kenneth S. Koenig, age 87 of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. He was born June 25, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Joseph & Viola Koenig. Kenneth was a Professor of Music & started the music department at Macomb Community College. He taught for 40 years and took pride in the student Jazz Band, which he also started. He gave a love of music to many students and was always willing to help students in any way. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Denka) Koenig whom he married June 28, 1953, in Detroit.  He is also survived by one daughter, Sharon Davis & husband Gary of Edwardsville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Christopher Dubay & wife Alissa, Kristen Hunter & husband Jeff, Andrew Davis & wife Alyssa; five great grandchildren, Jack, Molly, & Charlie Hunter, Aubrey Dubay, and Emma Davis; and one sister, Diane Cannon & husband Ben of Chicago. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah Koenig Dubay & Stephanie Koenig.

Kenneth’s music career as a pianist took him in the direction of accompanying many celebrities that came into the Detroit area. He played many years with the Al Navarro Society Orchestra. He loved traveling with his wife and enjoyed spending the winters in Naples, Florida. Family & music meant everything to him and he was blessed to enjoy his grandchildren & great grandchildren. Kenneth was a member of St. Thomas Orthodox Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Gowanie Golf Club, and Phi Mu Alpha National Music Fraternity.  

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the St. Thomas Orthodox Church, 29150 W. 10 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, Michigan. The service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Thomas with Fr. Dimitrie Vincent officiating. Burial will be at the Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. The family request memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Thomas Orthodox Church. McCabe Funeral Home in Farmington Hills is in charge of local arrangements.
