Jerome 'Jerry' E. Hoelscher

January 9, 1927 - July 5, 2019

On July 5th, 2019, Jerome “Jerry” Hoelscher went home to be with the Lord.

Jerry was born on January 9, 1927 in Madison, Nebraska to Frank and Mary Hoelscher. On January 3rd, 1953 he married Mae Moore. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage and had 7 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary; his wife Mae; his siblings Elmer, Lester, Leona and Eleanor, and his son Jerome “Jay” E. Hoelscher, Jr. (Kaye). He is survived by his children Deborah (Ronald) Wenderski, Bonita Bloom, Daniel Hoelscher, Doris (Terry) Darga, Catherine Hoelscher and Patrick Hoelscher; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jerry served in the US Army during WWII and received an Occupation Medal of Germany. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of Nebraska and taught English for a few years. One day, while toying with his brother’s accordion, he found his true passion in music. While working for Ford Motor Company (30 years) he taught accordion lessons and played at weddings and banquets with his son Jay and his band The Hytymes.

He was an active member at St Thomas a ‘Becket Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus and The American Legion. In addition to his love of family and music, Jerry loved to work outside.  As with everything that he did, he was quite the perfectionist, only the greenest, perfectly manicured landscape would work for him.

Thank you, Dad, for the love, the laughter, the lessons and for being the most amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Jerry’s visitation will be Tuesday, July 9th, from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.  with a 7 p.m. Scripture Service at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. He will lie In State Wednesday, July 10th, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas a' Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd. Canton.   Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors in his name.
