Bernice Marie Phillips passed away peacefully on May 23, 2020 at the age of 100.

She was the loving wife of the late John B. for 55 years; devoted mother of Jacqueline (late Kenneth) Hoerauf, Jeffrey (Marjorie), Cheryl, Susan (Jame) Schmaltz, Gary (Florine), Christopher (Linda), and the late Matthew Phillips; cherished grandmother of Geoffrey (Deborah) Hoerauf, Beth (Steven) Hanna, Deborah (Thomas) Kervin, Ann (Billy) Grabowski, and Peggy, Ruth, John (Kelley), Joseph, Adam, Aaron (Anne), Mathew, Cassie, and Emily Phillips; devoted great grandmother of 14 and great great grandmother of 1.

Bernice Marie was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 3, 1920 to Frederick Gerald and Elisabeth (Klenck) Provost. She married John B. Phillips on April 11, 1942 and the couple was blessed with 7 children. After raising her children, Bernice went onto enjoy working for the Berkley School District and retired after several years of dedication.

Bernice was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her kind and caring influence will live on in the hearts of her beloved family and friends.

A Memorial Mass for Bernice will take place at a later date. She will be reunited with her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions are appreciated to The Sisters of Mercy: Catholic Women Religious Congregation in Bernice’s name.
