Gerald A. Matuszak

August 3, 1946 - March 4, 2021

Gerald (Jerry) Matuszak, age 74, of Farmington Hills, Michigan passed away March 4th, 2021.

Jerry was born August 3th, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to Henry and Dorothy Matuszak. He attended Epiphany Elementary School followed by Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit for both high school and college. Soon after leaving the seminary, Jerry met the love of his life, Cynthia. Jerry and Cindy were married February 5th, 1971 in Detroit, starting a wonderful, albeit too short, 50 years together.

Jerry and Cindy were blessed with two wonderful sons, David and Sean. Jerry was a loving and devoted father, never missing a sports event or important moment in his children’s lives. His strong family values, loyalty and supportive nature is something that can be seen in how Sean and David support their own family and friends. Jerry enjoyed sports, especially the Detroit Tigers, and attended many games over the years with family and friends. Jerry enjoyed traveling, including trips to Florida for Tigers Spring Training, several family cruises, charter fishing and Disney with the grandkids, and a tour of the British Isles.

Jerry was a longtime active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Fabian Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He took his duties seriously and gave back to the community that he was so proud of. He was passionate about co-chairing the Knights’ annual Tootsie Roll drive and was very proud when his council outdid all the others in the state. Until his multiple myeloma diagnosis, Jerry and Cindy also served as altar ministers at church for a number of years.

Jerry spent many years working in the business forms industry, dealing mostly with the auto companies. At the end of his career he was an account manager for the GM account. He was well-liked by both co-workers and the purchasing agents he dealt with at GM, and many became long-time friends.

Jerry’s greatest joy was his grandchildren, Cole and Raegan. He loved them fiercely and was the very best grandpa anyone could hope for. He was Cole’s #1 fishing buddy and rarely missed a baseball or flag football game. He never turned down a game of catch, even if it was in the living room against Grandma’s wishes! Jerry’s most recent achievement was Homeschool Grandpa of the Year for Raegan. One of Raegan’s favorite places was Grandpa’s lap whether it was under a sun umbrella at one of Cole’s baseball games or just relaxing after a day of schoolwork.

Jerry was cherished by his entire family and extended family of friends and colleagues. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who held him dear.

Gerald was a devoted husband to Cynthia for 50 years, a loving father to David and Sean (Martha), and a doting grandfather to Cole and Raegan. He was also the beloved brother of Ron and the late Mike (Mary) and a Godfather to Caitlin Gdowski, Jeffrey Matuszak and Alex Fulton, and cherished by many, many more.

Visitation for Jerry will be held on Monday, March 8th, from 2:00 p.m. until  8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus Service at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. He will lie In State on Tuesday, March 9th, from 10:00 a.m. until time of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. A Committal Service will follow in St. Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights.
