Devidas P. Mainthia

July 1, 1926 - March 17, 2021

Devidas P. Mainthia, age 94 of Orchard Lake, Michigan passed away March 17, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

Devidas Mainthia was born in 1926 in India to Purushottam and Samabai. During high school he participated in India’s Freedom movement, following in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi. He attended the Pune Engineering College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering in 1950. Following graduation, Devidas became employed as an engineer for the State of Gujarat where he worked on the construction of bridges, roads, refineries, and dams. While working full-time for the State of Gujarat, he attended the M.S. University in Vadodara, India to obtain his law degree. With many years of dedication to his profession under his belt, Devidas retired in 1984 and immigrated to the United States of America.

Devidas was a true scholar; he was never without a book, newspaper, or iPad, keeping himself informed on national and international affairs. He passed on his appreciation for the value of education to his children and others. Always staying active both mentally and physically, Devidas enjoyed the game of bridge, spending his time out on the courts playing tennis, and being a regular participant at his daily laughing club. He was also a very social man, building communities around him no matter where he went and always kept in touch with loved ones around the world. Nevertheless, he was a modest and humble man who will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

Devidas was the beloved husband of the late Kastur for 67 years. Loving father of Lata Ganatra, Veena Nanavati, Hemant Mainthia, Dipti Shah, and Rajul Mainthia. Proud grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 4. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Devidas will be held Sunday, March 21st, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
