John "Jack" Walton

April 2, 1934 - April 10, 2022

John Phillip “Jack” Walton, age 88 of Southfield, passed away April 10, 2022 with his son at his side.  He was born in Detroit on April 2, 1934, the second of seven children to J. Leo and Julia (McMillan) Walton. He attended St. Michael’s School in Southfield, University of Detroit Jesuit High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from The University of Detroit.

Following high school, Jack enlisted in the Air Force where he served honorably for four years. He married the love of his life, Janet Nightingale, and they spent 40 years together until her death in 2001.

He spent 27 years at Ford Motor Credit Company. Following his retirement, Jack enjoyed flying small planes, spending hours at the Troy airport handling the books for the Troy flying club. Jack also enjoyed square-dancing, belonging to many clubs over the years. Golf was also a favorite pastime especially the last two seasons when he was joined by his son, Gregg, and grandson, Matthew in league play.

Jack will be remembered as a man of few words, but the words he shared were usually profound. He was also fond of leaving thank you notes to the servers when he ate out at restaurants. He loved attending hockey games, especially to watch his grandkids play. He will be missed by his large extended family and friends.

He was the beloved husband of the late Janet (Nightingale) Walton and loving father of Gregg (Julie). Proud grandfather of Jay, Matthew, and Lindsey. He is survived by his siblings Donald, Julie Tenbusch, and Robert, and is predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Charles, and David.

Visitation for Mr. Walton will be held on Tuesday, April 12, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service and eulogy at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. He will lie in state on Wednesday, April 13, at 9:30 a.m., until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Transfiguration, 25225 Code Rd., Southfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jack's name are appreciated to Angela Hospice.
