I called Fran for a sub job at 5 am in the morning, Zeke answered the phone "do you know it is barbaric to call at this time" Thus Genghis and the Barbarian were born.

I remember Zeke and Fran because my brother (Jack Hohnke) always mentioned them. Jack also passed away between the 26th of August and the 6th of September. He was very fond of them, and went to tailgating for MSU.

As a little girl growing up it was always a big treat to visit at Uncle Zeke and Aunt Fran's. My Aunt was so kind and my Uncle always smiling and kidding around. Zeke had this huge green flag with the letter "S" in white flying at his house. Just before leaving, I asked him what the letter "S" stood for? Without blinking an eye he leaned down, looked me straight in the eye, and said "SEX BABY!" This was so vintage Zeke! I was horrified! I got I the car and told my dad his brother was flying a flag for sex! My dad roared with laughter!! He explained the flag was the MSU Spartan flag. My mom was so mad at Zeke! I was mad that he had fooled me! Years later I would remind him of that day and we would laugh! Oh what a tease he was! And so full of life! One of a kind! Rest In Peace Zeke. Rest In Peace With God!

Zeke, Fran and family have been family friends for decades. I never realized Zeke and I shared a birthday until I kept getting cards from him and Fran. Enjoyed seeing Zeke at MSU games and no doubt the Spartan Fight Song was being sung at the pearly gates. Rest in peace old friend.

Delivering the Detroit News to the Copps when I was 11 or 12 years old. The route started as my brother's then I took over when he had sport practices. Around 1980, paper girls had to go door to door to collect for the paper every week. I had to set aside an entire afternoon just to collect from the Copps. Fran and Zeke would invite me into their home and teach me about Michigan State. My heart smiles at the memory of Zeke's booming greetings and Fran was right with him. Their house has always been filled with love. I'm a better person for knowing both Fran and Zeke. I'm sending my Spartan hugs and love to you from Dayton. My oldest is a Buckeye now, but my middle son has MSU at the top of his college list. Elodie is in Kindergarten so Zeke has a few more years to move her spirit towards East Lansing.

We met Zeke and his lovely wife Fran numerous times at Dunleavy's. Always friendly and a treat to talk to both of them. May you rest in the arms of our Savior. Also, thank you for your generous gift of serving in two wars. I agree with Zeke GO GREEN!
