I Remember...

I send my deepest condolences to the entire Blaty family. George was dedicated to his family and the family deeply loved him back. He was also a dedicated public servant. He will be missed. Dave Voges

As increasing numbers of women and African Americans joined the legal community, George welcomed me, with open arms, a young black woman. He always had my back and was instrumental as a role model and mentor, who guided the development of skills, abilities and a work ethic that ensured my professional success. After my early retirement from state civil service, I embarked upon yet a second career as a librarian. Upon request, George supplied me with stellar letters of reference that, among other things, led to employment at the Wayne State University law library and the Library of Congress. I will remain forever grateful for his friendship and influence upon my life.

George was a force, incisive. He wasn't afraid to call anyone's bluff. He was candid, for certain. You always knew where you stood with George. He could be tough but equally kind and generous. If he recognized an injustice toward a friend or colleague, he would step in to fix it. I admired George for his strengths and treasured him for his humanity.
