I Remember...

In 1976 my mother and I flew to Montevideo, Uruguay to meet my fiance's family for the first time. That is when I met Mary, Jorge's sister. It was her dream to someday be able to go to the US, little did we know that a year later Jorge and I would be waiting for her at the Chicago O'hare Airport to welcome her. A few months later through a friend of mine, Mary and Hannu met and it was love at first sight. They never separated again. The last conversation I had with Mary a few days before she passed was about her concern for Hannu, her true love and best friend. Although she has left this Earth one day they will be together in Eternity.

Mary lives on in my memory as the beautiful and lively woman she was when we first met. Children were charmed by her kind and gentle spirit. She always turned to God for guidance and demonstrated her faith through the life she lived. She was loved by many. Mary's smile and sweet presence will be sorely missed.

I remember the first time we met Mary. She was so petite, energetic and lovely. But she was also brave and courageous, having chosen to come to the U. S. as a young woman to make a new life here. I will always remember Mary for her positive attitude, faith, strength of character and love for her family and husband. We will miss her.

I remember Mary's good humor, her laugh. Always a twinkle in her eye and the strong faith in salvation through Jesus of the saved. She was a wonderful cook and shared freely. I think Heaven is a better place because of Mary being there.

One of my favorite memories of Mary was at Hannu and Mary's wedding. Myself and my cousin Shelly were 5 years old and the flower girls, in pretty yellow dresses. As pretty as we felt, Mary stole the show. She was the most beautiful person I had ever seen! Her beautiful smile, long dark hair and gorgeous dark eyes...all wrapped up in the most beautiful dress I had ever seen...how amazingly long the train was and all those tiny buttons down the back! She was then and always, beautiful.
