I Remember...

I was sorry to learn of the passing of Gabe Tiberio. Gabe was someone I treasured both as a boss and as a friend. For many years, the picture taken with Gabe, as Executive Director, at my 25th anniversary with GM, has hung in my rec room. Through the years, I attended many GM retirement parties, and was impressed that Gabe was also often there too. He once told me that he would come and take pictures at my retirement. Sure enough, he was there, and he sent me the pictures that he took. Years later, my wife and I attended a 'Master Gardener' presentation and slide show on Ornamental Grasses that Gabe gave at the Garden Show at the Silverdome. Afterwards, he invited us to join him for lunch there. These examples illustrate only a few of Gabe's successes and talents. But they also show him as a warm, caring person who enriched the lives of his many friends and colleagues.

Mr. Tiberio was my first boss at General Motors. I was a young girl of 18 when I began my career with that company. He was this dashing young Italian man and, I must admit, I had a bit of a crush on him! He took me under his wing and patiently taught me the in's and out's of surviving in what was, at that time, mostly a "man's world." All through my 39 year career at GM, Mr. Tiberio kept an eye on me. We never lost touch with each other. I went to his retirement party; he came to mine. Even after retirement, we still kept in touch. This man, my mentor, became my friend. I grew to love not only him, but his dear wife also. I will miss him, but I know that I will see him again when we are both in Heaven. Goodbye for now Mr. "T".
