Zbigniew Jakubowski

May 21, 1925 - July 3, 2021

Zbigniew L. (Jake) Jakubowski, aged 96, passed away after a short illness on July 3, 2021. He is survived by his son Vernon (Aggie), daughter Jessica, nine beloved grandchildren and their significant others and one great grandchild. He is predeceased by his dearly loved wife of 69 years, Jeanette, and daughter Donna.

Jake was born in May, 1925 in the vicinity of Detroit, Michigan. He spent his whole life in Detroit, St. Clair Shores, and Farmington Hills. His passing further reduces the dwindling number of World War 2 veterans. He initially tried enlisting during the war at the age of 17 before proudly serving as a quartermaster aboard LST 747. Following the war he married his lifelong soulmate, Jeanette, and happily assumed the role of a family man. His entire working career was spent in the pharmaceutical industry with Parke Davis and its successor companies.

Jake was a friendly and compassionate person. Throughout his life he dabbled in many activities such as square dancing and photography. What he enjoyed most though was antiquing and collecting. The thrill was in the hunt and he travelled the midwest and east looking for the next find.

In keeping with Jake’s wishes and in recognition of the fact that he outlived all of his family, coworker and friend peers, there will be no funeral services. His ashes have been interred close to those of his wife. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Zbigniew’s name to the Michigan Humane Society or Michigan Land Conservancy would be appreciated.
