Alice Loughrey, age 88 of Novi, passed away August 10, 2021. 

Alice was the beloved wife of the late Bill for 59 years; devoted mother of Lynn (Daniel Jr.) Wolan and Charles Loughrey; and cherished grandmother of Erin, Anna, and Teagan Loughrey. She also leaves behind her four-legged companion, the family cat, Ginger.

Alice was born on September 22, 1932, in Dearborn, Michigan to Charles and Gertrude Waterhouse. Upon graduating from high school, she enrolled at Michigan State University where she joined Delta Gamma sorority and later obtained her bachelor’s degree in Art. A woman who was truly ahead of her time, she pursued her passion to become an interior designer. One of her proudest accomplishments was working for Hudson’s Department Store in downtown Detroit, one of the tallest and most prestigious department stores in the world during its heyday. After the development of Northland Mall in Southfield, Alice relocated to their Hudson's store, where she later retired. 

In the early days, Alice spent her free time as a Camp Fire Girls camp counselor and playing field hockey at MSU. While skiing in Northern Michigan, she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Loughrey. The two wed in 1960 and made their home in Birmingham, Michigan. Soon after the couple was blessed with two children: Lynn and Charles. As a mother, she was very active in her children’s lives, dedicating her time as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Den Mother.

Some of Alice’s most cherished memories were traveling by boats and motor homes all over the United States, the Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. When Alice was not traveling, she enjoyed staying with Bill at their homes in Charlevoix, Michigan and Naples, Florida. She also liked gardening, bird watching, sewing and the time spent with her close friends in their sewing club. Above all, her greatest love in life was for her family, who will always remember how blessed they were with her loyal and unconditional love. 

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Loughrey's name are appreciated to The American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
