Richard T. Craffey

March 3, 1947 - October 12, 2021

Richard T. Craffey passed away October 12, 2021, at the age of 74. He was the loving husband of Anne for 51 years; devoted father of Dan (Michelle Boettcher) and Pauline (Tim) Wright; cherished grandfather of Andrew Craffey and Mikey and Joey Wright; and dearest brother of Keith Craffey. Ric also leaves many beloved extended family members and friends.

Richard Thomas was born on March 3, 1947, in Detroit to Thomas and Margaret Craffey. He grew up in Detroit, graduated from Brother Rice High School in 1965 and went onto study business at Western Michigan University. While attending Western, Ric met Anne McShane. The pair dated and wedding bells rang on September 11, 1970 at St. Michaels in Southfield. The beautiful couple honeymooned in Majorca, Spain.

Shortly after marriage, Ric and Anne were blessed with two children: Dan and Pauline. The family settled in Plymouth to raise their children. Ric was an active father, always attending sporting events and cheering fiercely from the sidelines. He was a proud Western graduate, attending football games with friends. Ric also loved to golf. He frequented the courses near his home and played on various leagues and church leagues.

Ric was a hard worker, a sales manager in the appliance industry. He spent most of his time working for Whirlpool and would always be found bringing home the latest gadget. Ric traveled throughout Michigan for work but also enjoyed traveling for pleasure. Every year the ‘Craffey Open’, a weekend-long family reunion, was held in Oscoda. The family would gather, and Ric truly looked forward to those moments, he really held everyone together.

Ric was a devout catholic, keeping with his faith throughout his life. He was a founding member of Resurrection Parish in Canton, acting as past Treasurer for their St. Vincent de Paul Society. Ric was the ‘go to’ guy of the parish, always willing to help and lend a hand. Sometimes finding himself in Detroit, delivering sandwiches to the Pope Francis Center.

Ric had a larger-than-life personality. His laugh could be recognized from across the room. Ric was outgoing and social; his grandchildren brought a new meaning of joy. They gave him things to look forward to and cheer about. Ric’s family and friends will miss his joyful heart and cherish his loving influence.

Mr. Craffey’s family will receive guests on Friday, October 15th, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service at McCabe Funeral Home: Canton Chapel, 851 N. Canton Center Road, Canton.
