Larry Robert Chapman

May 1, 1949 - January 2, 2022

Larry Robert Chapman, age 72 of West Bloomfield, passed away January 2, 2022.

Larry Robert Chapman was born on May 1, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan to Gerald and Carol Chapman. He attended and graduated from North Farmington High School in 1967. On April 20, 1985, Larry married the love of his life, Cheryl Parsons and the lovely couple were blessed with two children. In December of 1995, Larry earned a B.S. degree with Magna Cum Laude honors from Central Michigan University. He then enrolled at Madonna University where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Business Administration on July 23, 2004.

Larry was a supportive husband, a loving father, and a caring leader. He was a dynamic professional with over 30 years of experience in a full range of marketing and sales positions in the Automotive OEM and after-market segment. Larry began his career working for BASF Corporation which afforded him the opportunity to travel internationally, and he later retired in 2005. He continued working for various companies such as Industrial Finishes, R L Paint Products Inc., Akzo Nobel, and presently, National Oak Distributers Inc. Larry was admired by his colleagues for his energy and ability to connect with all those he worked with.

While he traveled a lot for work, Larry always prioritized his family, even if it meant flying home on the weekend. He was very involved in Lauren and Cameron’s lives as they grew. He allowed them to flourish, as they both possessed their dad’s palpable drive to follow a dream and work hard along the way. From coaching soccer, attending choir concerts, dance recitals and karate tests, he was always so proud of his children.

Larry was unbelievably supportive of Lauren’s career in the arts. He was incredibly proud to tell anyone who would listen about all of her accomplishments on Broadway and in New York City. He was always there for opening nights on Cheryl’s arm, beaming in the audience with joy.

Larry and Cameron had a very special bond as they pursued their karate journeys together achieving their black belts in Ashihara. They recently had spent a lot of time driving back and forth to Cameron’s College in Florida. Larry always lit up when he described his son’s academic achievements and future career in the medical field.

Larry was also a devoted and supportive husband to Cheryl. The beginning of their love story included a lot of travel, beaches, and glorious sunsets. They prioritized their time together to relax and grow in love over their 37 years together. As a team, they raised their two incredible children, surrounding them with love and support. Though he persisted, amusingly Larry came to love all of the Chapman animals through the years. Larry’s absolute favorite thing to do was to rent a book from the local library which he would finish in about two days.

The Chapman family will forever relish in all the memories they had with dear Larry, finding comfort in all the support and love from family and friends. Larry was an incredible man, and his legacy lives on in his beautiful children and courageous wife.

Larry is the beloved husband of Cheryl Chapman. Loving father of Lauren and Cameron Chapman. Dear brother of Richard Chapman and Wendy Chapman Murdock

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations in Larry Chapman’s honor to the American Heart Association.
