Peter J. Acho

December 27, 1938 - August 7, 2022

Peter Joseph Acho, age 83, passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2022.

Pete would be the first to tell you, he fully enjoyed his life. Pete was first generation Chaldean-American born in Detroit, Michigan on December 27th, 1938 to the late Joseph and Rima Acho. He was the third of four brothers, including the late Raymond (Pat), Eddie (the late Rusty), and Jerry (Khalida) and brother-in-law to Jack Kittinger (Hilda).  Above all, Pete was devoted to his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara (nee Kittinger), his two children, Mike and Jackie (John LeMay), and 5 grandchildren, Alex, Sophie, Raquel, Grant, and Jenna, who think of him as the best Baba in the world.

Pete was a grocer who taught his children the value of a good day’s work and treating all people honestly. But it was outside of work where he made his biggest contributions. Always surrounded by lots of friends and family, he was known as a wonderful cousin, uncle, brother, employer and golf partner. Pete was contagiously optimistic, witty, energetic, empathetic, loyal, and a lifelong learner. He completed his bachelor’s degree at age 57 and embraced new technologies. He fully enjoyed his retirement years, gardening, cooking, traveling, golfing, advocating for elder care, enjoying family and friends, and most of all, playing with his grandchildren. Even as he faced illness toward the end of his life, he modeled resilience, continuing to do whatever he could to feel well.

A Memorial Service celebrating Pete’s life will take place Sunday, August 14, from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W 12 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills, prefaced by a period of visitation from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The family kindly requests that masks be worn. The service will be live streamed for those who wish to attend virtually at the following link: Mr. Peter Acho Memorial Service Live Stream
