Mary A. Martin, age 89 of Clarkston, Michigan, passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2024. She was born on May 19, 1935 in Marquette, Michigan, the first child of Carl and Sylvia (Wehmanen) Anderson, and was big sister to Marlys (James) Gauthier, the late Maxine (Stanley) Roadge, Carl (Mary Ellen) Anderson, and Madeline (Clifford) Malnor. After graduating from Northern Michigan University, Mary moved to the Detroit area and began her career in elementary education. She met and married her husband of 34 years, the late Herbert Martin, and raised two daughters, Janet and Catherine. Even while her daughters were young, she continued to work as a respected (by staff and coworkers) and feared (by students) substitute teacher in the Bloomfield Hills School District. She later pursued and obtained an associate’s degree to become a paralegal, working until her retirement for the Oakland County court system. She was a loyal friend, talented knitter, an avid reader, a skilled pinochle player, and golfer. She and her husband were founding members of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School to many, many children over the years. She remained an active member of the church until her death. Mary will be missed by her family and her many friends. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Herbert. Loving mother of Janet Martin and Catherine Martin. Dear sister of Marlys (James) Gauthier, Carl (Mary Ellen) Anderson, Madeline (Clifford) Malnor, and the late Maxine (Stanley) Roadge. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. A Memorial Service for Mary will be held on Monday, September 16th, at 11:00 a.m., with gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 4800 Orchard Lake Rd., West Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in West Bloomfield, Michigan, or to the American Diabetes Association.Mary A. Martin
