Daniel E. Cafolla

March 26, 1941 - October 6, 2017

Daniel Edward Cafolla was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 26th, 1941 to Luigi and Ersilia Cafolla, Italian immigrants who had met and married in Ireland. As a child, his family moved near Cheboygan, Michigan where they lived above the small combination grocery store and gas station they ran in Alverno. Dan attended a one-room schoolhouse during his elementary years, and graduated from Cheboygan Catholic High School in 1959.

Dan passed away on October 6th, 2017 due to complications from Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his four children: Lisa Berden, Brenda Cafolla, Chris Cafolla, and Cathy Williams. He was intensely proud of them and delighted in their successes. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Kayla, Andrew, Alonzo, Emanuelle, and Aviella, and recently celebrated the birth of his first great-grandchild, Aurora. In 1984, Dan married his wife, Louise, and they enjoyed being the best of friends for thirty-three years before he was called home. They traveled extensively—as far afield as Thailand and Costa Rica—but Dan most loved staying at their condo in Florida, where he could golf, golf, golf.

Throughout his life, Dan was a hard worker and took just about every job he could find before he found his true calling, which included driving a jeep through fields at breakneck speeds for a gas and oil surveyor, being a camera man for the local TV station, managing a bank, gravedigging, and delivering milk. Dan founded and organized the Cheboygan Community Federal Credit Union, and eventually moved downstate with his family to become manager of the Suburban Catholic Credit Union on Grand River at Power Road. Dan continued to serve on the Board of Directors at SCCU for many years, although he left to enter the field of life insurance sales in 1966. His successes in the insurance field included his membership in the Million Dollar Round Table for many years, and earning the designations of Certified Life Underwriter and Certified Financial Planner. He established his own agency and enjoyed a long career selling life insurance, health insurance, and securities.

In addition to his family and career, Dan also treasured his church, Grace Chapel, and served there in numerous capacities, including but not limited to his service as a Deacon, an Elder, a teacher of the Good Sense financial responsibility classes, and an organizer for the usher team. Mostly, he just loved the people of Grace Chapel and being a part of its body of believers.

Dan was the nicest man you ever met, every day of his life.
