David Ray Dresser

December 11, 1923 - October 4, 2018

David Ray Dresser passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Beaumont Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan.  He was born December 11, 1923, in Wheaton, Illinois, a son of Amos and Geraldine (nee: Kellogg) Dresser, IV.  On September 2, 1949, David was married to Betty Jane Kracklan in Detroit, Michigan.  They made their home in the metro Detroit area since 1963.

David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He graduated from Wheaton College and The Biblical Seminary in New York, then served as a pastor at congregations in Pennsylvania, at Ward Memorial Presbyterian Church in Detroit, at Christ Community Fellowship, and at Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Metro Detroit. He retired as a pastor at the Vineyard Church in 1993.  David was an active member of Metro Detroit Christian Church until he went to be with Jesus.  David loved people and had an innate ability to connect with anyone. He was warm, friendly, a masterful conversationalist, and very humorous.  David was a student of the Scriptures and had a genuine love for God, for the cross of Jesus, and for the Body of Christ. He enjoyed watching the news and keeping current with events in the world.  David was a cartoonist and wrote a book on his experiences in the army called,  “World War II: A Veteran’s Cartoon Diary.”  David also wrote a book called “Flying High,” which tells his life story. David was a true family man who loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

David R. Dresser is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Betty Jane Dresser.  Dear father of David P. (Margaret) Dresser and Peter D. (Lisa) Dresser.  Fond grandfather of John (Amy) Dresser, Stephen Dresser, Daniel (Elizabeth) Dresser, Benjamin (Kristin) Dresser, Joseph Dresser, Samuel Dresser and 5 great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by his 2 children: Stephen Dresser and Mary Dresser, 4 brothers, and one sister.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 2-5 and 6-8 P.M. at the McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, MI.  Instate on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Metro Detroit Christian Church, 6655 Middlebelt Rd., West Bloomfield at 2:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral at 3:00 P.M.   Burial will be at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.

Memorial contributions may be made to the “The Kingdom Guild School of Formation Scholarship Fund,” with checks made to “Metro Detroit Christian Church.”  The School of Formation, a ministry of Metro Detroit Christian Church, is carrying on Jesus’ mandate and David’s passion to see people discipled into the power of the cross for a manifestation of God’s Kingdom on earth.
