Timothy G. DeVries

March 31, 1965 - September 19, 2020

Timothy G. DeVries, age 55 of West Bloomfield, passed away September 19, 2020.

Born in Grand Rapids to Robert and Alice DeVries, Tim was raised in a large and loving family. With both parents working as missionaries, he and his siblings spent much of their childhood and young adult years in the Philippines.

Back home again in Michigan, Tim looked forward to a family of his own. As fate worked in its usual mysterious ways, he would come to know and fall for a woman named Natalya. With only the distance of the Atlantic Ocean between them, their love knew no bounds. They soon married, beyond excited to start the next chapter of their lives together.

Tim was well known as someone who always enjoyed friends, family and the experiences that came along with living a full life. He appreciated anything the great outdoors had to offer, especially fishing and kayaking. Traveling was a great passion and something he did as often as possible. Mexico, Fiji, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and to Turkey with his wife, were just a few of the destinations that topped his list of favorites.

In the comfort of his own home, Tim never minded relaxing with a good cigar and an even better bourbon. He welcomed family, friends and neighbors to gather, never shying away from throwing a good party. As a professional storyteller, Tim “never let facts get in the way”, and most will be hard-pressed to ever find another with a talent like his. It was these amazing attributes that made it so easy to become Tim’s friend.

Besides knowing the giant personality that was Tim, a quiet side also existed. Everyone knew how much he loved to set aside all the excitement and tend to his garden. With hours invested planting tulips and growing vegetables, his green thumb was definitely inherited from his farmer parents. Green beans and tomatoes seemed to be his specialty, often sharing the wealth in bulk with his lucky neighbors.

Above all else, Tim cherished the time he shared with his wife and daughter. Family was everything, and those closest to him will miss his extraordinary presence and passion for living his best life. A legacy that will never fade, Tim will remain in the hearts and minds of those he’s gone before, with an abundance of wonderful memories to cherish.

He was the beloved husband of Natalya for 20 years. Loving father of Narmina (Daryl). Cherished son of Alice and the late Robert. Dear brother of Dan (Dahiana), Paul (Diane), Mary (Joel), Kristina (Heather), Michelle (DuVaughn), Julianne, Bobby, Carolyn, Sandi and Brian. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Tim will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. His Committal Service will be held on Thursday, September 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 25800 W. 10 Mile Rd., Southfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Bethany Christian Service Adoption Agency.
