Dr. Efren F. Platon

Dr. Efren F. Platon, age 81 of Farmington Hills, passed away March 23, 2023.

Dr. Efren Feliciano Platon passed away on March 23, 2023. He was born on March 4, 1942, to Severina and Aquilino Platon in Tanauan, Batangas, Philippines. He is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Teresita (Tita) Sinaguinan of Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija, Philippines; his children Maria Elena (Ellen) Platon Dionisio (Robert) and Joseph Paul Platon (girlfriend Stacey Bentley); his grandchildren Noah Henry and Eliana Teresa Dionisio; his siblings Pablito (Baby), Max (Elvie), Nessy, Ester (Eddie), Johnny (Nemy) and Enrique (Agnes) as well as several nieces and nephews. The last two brothers are twins who Efren helped put through medical school after their father died at a young age. 

Efren graduated from Far Eastern University Medical School in the Philippines in 1966. He interned at Meriden Hospital in Meriden, Connecticut, where he met his future wife Tita in 1967. He completed an Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, from 1968 to 1972. He went into private practice with his wife and when they closed their practice in March 2001, he joined Visiting Physicians Association full time until he retired in 2016. 

Efren was an active leader in the Filipino American community for over 25 years and had been a member/officer of numerous Filipino American associations, including Philippine Medical Association of Michigan (PMAM), Philippine American Community Center of Michigan (PACCM), FEU Medical Alumni Association of Michigan, FILAMCCO, Novo Ecijanos of Michigan, and Lipunang Tagalog. He was also a past member of Oakland County Medical Society (OCMS), Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) and Emeritus Staff Physician at Providence Hospital. He served as president of Lipunang Tagalog, PACCM, PMAM, and as PMAM president, sent a 40 foot container of medical supplies from World Medical Relief to the Philippines for medical missions in Nueva Ecija and Batangas. He and his wife also brought monetary donations from different Fil Am associations for the earthquake victims in Nueva Ecija. He joined medical missions in Pampanga and donated medicines and vitamins to Gawad Kalinga in Tanauan, Batangas. He volunteered at World Medical Relief and Health Expos in metro Detroit as well.

He loved traveling, solving crossword puzzles, listening to music and watching sports, and was especially a fan of the football and basketball teams of Detroit and U of M. He played basketball in college and on the PMAM basketball team when he was younger. 

Efren was well known for his love of God and family, down to earth personality, and his great sense of humor, which made him a popular emcee at PMAM and FEU events.

Instead of mourning his passing, he would prefer we celebrate his life. Thank you all.

Visitation for Dr. Platon will be held Friday, March 31st, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Novena & Eulogy Service at 6:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. He will lie in state on Saturday, April 1st, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd., Farmington. Dr. Platon will be laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
