Raymond Naglik

July 8, 1948 - May 10, 2023

Raymond F. Naglik, age 74 of Canton, passed away May 10, 2023. He was born on July 8, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan to Rudolph and Anna Naglik.

Raised in Dearborn, Ray graduated from St. Alphonsus High School. He went on to attend Wayne State University, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. While both working for Zieger Hospital in Detroit, Ray met Ocene through a group of friends. It was really Ray’s gold 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that caught Ocene’s eye. He offered to let her take in it for a spin, when she quickly managed to back into a parked car, making a dent. Ray slapped a bumper sticker over the damage and decided he still wanted to marry her. The two wed on June 23, 1973 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Detroit.

Ray and Ocene lived in Dearborn for a while, making sure to have their fun before starting a family. Taking a job with Farmington Public Schools in 1971, the two moved to Farmington Hills, where Ray taught History, Social Studies, and English and they raised their two children. The family spent plenty of summers at the cottage in Roscommon, where they enjoyed lake life by boating, water tubing, jet skiing and daily morning runs. Once the children were established with families of their own, Ray retired in 2005 and he and Ocene moved to Las Vegas. Unfortunately not too many years later, Ray suffered a stroke and the two decided to head back to Michigan.

Quite a history buff, Ray knew all things Civil War, WWI, and especially WWII. As a teacher, naturally he loved to visit historical places. One of his most memorable trips was to France, where he visited all of Normandy’s WWII sites. Ray loved to travel not only for educational purposes, but to have fun as well. While Ray did all the planning, all Ocene had to do was sit back and wonder where to next. They enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, over to Cancun, St. Thomas, and several times to one of their favorites, Hawaii. Ray knew how to have a good time and was always up for anything. He loved to socialize with friends, go out to dinner and the movies, and fill his weekends with fun. He had a great sense of humor and pretended to know how to dance to all his favorite music from the 60’s and 70’s. Ray was an all-around good guy. He was a devoted husband, nurturing father, and dedicated teacher. He was loyal, sincere and genuinely cared for others. Ray has certainly touched countless lives throughout his years and his memory will be deeply treasured.

For the past five years, Ray was well looked after by his dear caregivers, Genea Head, Cheryl Montgomery, and Tanisha McKelton.

Raymond was the beloved husband of Ocene for 49 years. Loving father of Dr. Rebecca (Tobin) Northway and Raymond Jr. (Megan). Proud grandfather of Jackson, Owen, and Scarlett.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Ray’s life will be held on Thursday, June 8th, at 10:30 a.m., with gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas a'Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton. Following the Mass, a luncheon will be held in Ray's honor at Antonio's Cucina Italiana Restaurant, 2220 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. For those planning to attend the luncheon, please contact Ray's family or the funeral home at 734-981-4530.
