George W. Klosterman, III

September 10, 1948 - May 12, 2023

George William Klosterman, III, age 74 of West Bloomfield, passed away May 12, 2023. He was born September 10, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Beverly Klosterman.

Proudly answering the call to duty, George served our great country in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge, he took a job with Michigan Bell. Throughout the company’s transitions, George remained on board, retiring from AT&T after 42 years of dedication.

Upon first meeting in Junior High, George and his future wife Jane quickly became childhood sweethearts, even celebrating their confirmation together. The two remained close throughout high school and during George’s time in the service. Less than a year after George returned, the two were wed on October 29, 1971, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Detroit. Soon after, George and Jane started a family of their own, raising their two daughters, Melissa and Tammy.

A devoted husband and father, George adored his family. Much of his time was spent supporting his daughters in any and all of their endeavors. He was indeed the best kind of dad, one that any child would hope for. Strong in stature and a lovable teddy bear on the inside, George just wanted to make sure everyone had fun. An exceptionally social and friendly guy, he loved to joke around. With Halloween being his favorite holiday, George loved donning his Grim Reaper or Darth Vader costume, getting a good scare out of the young trick-or-treaters. His outside decorations were topnotch, and everyone from across the neighborhood made their way over, looking forward to the display each year. As George’s daughters had children of their own, his pride in becoming a grandfather was genuinely touching. He continued his support and enthusiasm with the grandkids’ sports and school activities. He cheered on countless games, marching band competitions, dance recitals and Science Olympiad events. He joined in on flash mob performances and was always willing to lend a helping hand, whenever and wherever needed. He was certainly the rock of the family.

Faith and devotion were especially important to George. He loved his Lord and the incredible nature He bestowed on the world. George faithfully served his church for many years and was known as their leading usher, never missing a Sunday service. At home, he was committed to maintaining a beautiful landscape throughout his yard. His passion for plants was unmatched, and he was a proud member of the Southeast Michigan Bromeliad Society.

All the stories George loved to tell, sometimes more than twice, without a doubt will remain a cherished memory. His gratitude for life and family made him truly a blessed man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

George was the beloved husband of the late Jane for 50 years. Loving dad of Melissa (William) Mergner and Tammy (Andrew) Brown. Proud Papa of Christopher, Erich, Jason, and Victoria. Dear brother of Jack (Lori) and the late Kirk. George is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
