Mary Lou Meade

February 28, 1931 - May 18, 2023

Mary Louise Meade, age 92 of Plymouth, passed away May 18, 2023. She was born February 28, 1931, in Lansing, Michigan to Dr. William and Julia Meade.

Mary Lou graduated from Resurrection High School, Lansing in 1948. She then attended The University of Rochester, Eastman School of Music where she graduated in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in music and later earned a master’s degree in music/music literature from The University of Michigan, School of Music in 1957. Following graduation, Mary Lou enjoyed a lifelong career teaching at the high school level for Garden City Public Schools where she taught for 45 years. She taught Music mainly but because she had several certifications in German and French languages and Library Science, she also taught German and French and had assignments in the High School library. 

Mary Lou was the eldest of eight children, the dear sister of Margaret (Bruce) Turnbull, Colleen McMahon, William (Marcia) Meade, Michael (Margaret) Meade, Genevieve (Steve) Borbas, Francis (Kathleen) Meade, and Andrew Meade. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. William and Julia Meade.

A Memorial Mass for Mary Lou will be held on Thursday, June 22nd, with a gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas a’Becket Catholic Church, 555 S. Lilley Rd., Canton. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lansing.
