James Howard Neubacher died May 26, 2023. Born September 7, 1925, Jim joined the Army Air Corps at the age of 17 and trained as a navigator. He never saw active duty before the war ended. Jim used the GI Bill to attend Wayne State University. He received a degree in education and worked as a teacher and assistant principal. He returned to Wayne and earned his PhD in education, finishing in 1962. He worked for the Detroit Board of Education for many years. Jim married Margaret Yorkston Baxter and they had five children. Jim was a master gardener, raising hundreds of dahlias and was active for many years with the Michigan Dahlia Society. Jim was pre-deceased by his wife Margaret, and his two sons, James Thomas and David Michael. He is survived by his three daughters, Margaret, Nancy and Mary, as well as six grandchildren, Max, Bob, Will, Michael, Tommy and Madelyn. A Memorial Gathering to celebrate and remember Jim will be held Saturday, July 15th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at one of his favorite places – the library.
