Richard "Rick" W. Burton

April 8, 1959 - July 15, 2023

Richard “Rick” W. Burton, age 64 of Livonia, passed away July 15, 2023. He was born on April 8, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan, the first of three children to Patricia Ann and Richard Garrison Burton.

The Burton family made their home in West Bloomfield where Rick was raised. He graduated from North Farmington High School in 1977 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications in 1983 from Wayne State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. Following graduation, he began working for WHND, famously known as 'Honey Radio’, all while maintaining a long-standing career as a disc jockey for weddings, class reunions, and a multitude of many other events. Rick most recently worked for Cummings, McClorey, Davis & Acho P.L.C. in Livonia, dedicating over 24 years to the company as an accountant.

Full of life and fun, Rick had a magnetic personality and made friends wherever he went. He was an avid roller-skater, Star Trek fan, and was known for his vast wealth of knowledge about music, pop culture, and history. Rick’s true passion was for photography, which he perfected over many years. One of his favorite places to visit was Grand Bend, Canada, where he captured many beautiful images of the sunsets. He also chronicled many cherished memories for the attendees of the renaissance festivals that he frequented. Rick quickly became a major part of the renaissance festival community and will be deeply missed by his renaissance festival family.

A true family man, Rick took great pride in his heritage and ancestry. He knew every single cousin and they all knew and loved him. Rick loved nothing more than being an uncle. He was a kid himself around his nieces and nephew and he would always buy them the latest movies. Notorious for being the best gift-giver, he never missed a single holiday or birthday. The most cherished of all gifts was a Department 56 Christmas village set for his mother that turned into a massive collection and display, which Rick lovingly named “Burtonville”. A devoted son, Rick attentively cared for his parents in their later years. When his mother passed away, he would deliver flowers and grave blankets to her grave on behalf of his father. After the passing of his father, he continued tending to both graves. Rick had a kind and generous spirit that knew no bounds and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rick was the dearest brother of Kathy (Ken) Schuldt and Sally (Byron) Hornick. Proud uncle of Rachel, Stephanie, Caroline, and Shane. He is also survived by many cousins.

Rick was preceded in death by his loving parents, the late Patricia Ann and Richard Garrison Burton, and his aunts and uncles.

Visitation for Rick will be held Thursday, July 20th, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. He will lie in state on Friday, July 21st, at 9:30 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd., Farmington. Interment will follow in Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens, Novi.
