The family of Theda C. Thayer of Farmington Hills, Michigan is saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the age of 102 years – thus entering into eternal rest. Mrs. Thayer was born on October 24, 1921, in Oklahoma to James W. Daily and Anne Daily of Longview, Texas. She was the eldest of five siblings including Shirley (nee Daily) Mason, Paul (deceased), James Jr. (Earlene), and Donald (deceased). Mrs. Thayer was married to the late Gerald W. Thayer for 54 years. They celebrated their 50-year golden wedding anniversary in 1995. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Thayer were blessed with two children: Jeffrey J. Thayer (deceased) and Timothy G. Thayer, a stepson Lawrence Thayer (deceased), and stepdaughter Karen Thayer Richards. Mrs. Thayer was a proud graduate of Northwestern High School in 1939. She was a certified woman of personality for the Michigan Bell System in 1940. Mrs. Thayer retired from the Observer and Eccentric Newspapers after two decades of service as a classified ads saleswoman. She was an acclaimed dance instructor and danced with a traveling clogging dance group, participated in a neighborhood hobby club, was an avid gardener, and was a pledging member of Nardin Park United Methodist Church of Farmington Hills, Michigan. Mrs. Theda Thayer is survived by her son Timothy G. Thayer and stepdaughter Karen (nee Thayer) Richards; grandchildren David T. and Michael E. Thayer and three great grandchildren: Calleigh, Logan, and Ellie Thayer. She has eight step grandchildren: Perry Thayer, Pamela Hicks, Carey Thayer, Kevin and Bradley Richards, Renee Smith, Chris Richards, and Angela Leaser; and six great step grandchildren: Kelsey Smith, Emma and Rachel Leaser, Jane Thayer, and Kyle and Cody Richards. Funeral Services for Mrs. Thayer will be held Monday, October 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior at 10:00 a.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, Michigan 48334. Mrs. Thayer will be laid to rest and reunited with her beloved, Gerald, at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.
