Stephen McAlister Keating of Canton passed away on October 30, 2023, after a brave fight with cancer. He was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on July 5, 1974. He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty years, Lisa Morris Keating and his children; James and Claire, whom he adored. He is also survived by his parents, Mary Lou and Michael Moore and Edward J. (Ted) Keating and Steven Oaks, and his sister, Katherine Keating Edsey and brother-in-law David Edsey.

Steve was raised in Grosse Pointe Farms, and was a 1992 graduate of Grosse Pointe South High School, where he formed a group of lifelong friends. He attended Albion College, and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He later earned an M.B.A.  Steve was a twenty-three-year employee of Ford Motor Company, serving in several areas of Logistics, Product Launch and Management. He was proud to work in his role of Material Flow Engineering Supervisor until his last days.

His family was his passion, and Steve fought for them every day of the past four and a half years. He relished vacations with his wife and children, especially when they involved a lake or ocean view.

Steve’s darkest days turned out to be his finest hour—using his time to guide and support others with similar diagnoses. Steve volunteered with the Patient and Family Advisory Committee at the University of Michigan’s Rogel Cancer Center, and was featured in a series of orientation videos for new cancer patients.

He was loved and respected by all who knew him. His dependability and integrity were well known, as was his kindness and mentoring of those he worked with. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.   

Steve's family will receive guests on Monday, November 6th, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton.

In lieu of flowers, Steve requested two things: support the cancer-related charity of your choice, and get screened. He was adamant about not delaying colonoscopies and similar tests, and urged all to visit a  doctor about issues they are deferring.
