Mary Elizabeth (Garlick) Hoffman, passed away December 3, 2023. She was born July 7, 1925 to Sarah (Stonehouse) and Charles Garlick in Detroit, Michigan.

Mary fell in love at first sight and married Richard Hoffman on October 22, 1948. She was a proud graduate of Wayne State University and dedicated Elementary and Pre-School teacher in Detroit, Michigan. Mary served as a Deacon and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Milford Literary Club and was very active in Michigan State University’s Education Extension Program. She was in numerous book groups and loved sending letters, cards and notes to family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Sarah and Charles, her husband Richard (2008), and daughter Elizabeth Ann Thomas (2014). She is survived by her son Paul and his wife Debra, granddaughter Kai Hoffman, son-in-law Charles Thomas, grandson Erik Nuss and his wife Amanda, along with their two children Cooper and Isla, Mary’s great-grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Hoffman will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N. Canton Center Rd., Canton. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Mary will be laid to rest in Grand Lawn Cemetery, next to her late husband Richard, in a private family ceremony. 

Memorial donations in Mrs. Hoffman's name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
