Mary Ann Jacqueline “Jacky” (Canterbury) York

Jacky was a Valentine's Day baby born on February 14,1935. Her journey on Earth ended at home, with her family at her bedside, on February 23, 2024.

Jacky was a talented baker, creating extraordinary cakes for all occasions - including weddings, showers, and birthdays. Whether from a box recipe or from her memory, her cakes and cookies were unequaled because of the touch of love that she added.

For 63 years, she was married to Robert “Bob” York. Together they raised two daughters, Tamara (Craig) Amey and Krista Rushing. She adored her grandchildren, Kyla (Jordan) King and Robert Rushing. Her twin great-grandchildren, Caroline and Hunter King, never had a bite of their Granny’s cakes or cookies, but they both enjoyed a large piece of her love and her heart.

Jacky served our nation as a Navy nurse before retiring to raise her family. For over 30 years, she was a fixture at the Dixieland Flea Market in Waterford, Michigan where she found a passion for buying and selling antiques. She was a delight to buyers, sellers and visitors. She always had a smile on her face from a good joke or a dollar in her pocket from a good sale. 

Jacky was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eloise (Heppes) Canterbury, her brother, William, and her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Paul Ricker. She leaves behind her sister, Margaret Lazzaro and sister-in-law, Deloris Canterbury. In addition to her immediate family, Jacky and her cakes and cookies will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, countless friends and her beloved furbaby, Mazy. 

A celebration of life is being planned for a future date. Memorial donations can be made to the Michigan Humane Society or your favorite animal rescue.
