Mary Remington Kinney passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024. She was the loving wife of William “Bill” Kinney IV for 50 years; devoted mother of Julie and William (Carol) Kinney; cherished grandmother of Andrea and Caitlyn Kinney; dearest sister of Stephen (Kathie O’Dowd) Remington, Susan (William) Henderson, Rick (Amy Lennard Goehner) Remington, sister-in-law of Susan (late Chuck) Bonello, Kathryn (late Kenneth) Whitacre and Joseph (Kathy) Kinney, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary dedicated her life to caring for her children with love and warmth as a full-time homemaker before embarking on a fulfilling career as a Montessori teacher in the early 1980’s. Her creativity shone through in her love for crafting, especially when shared with her children. Mary found joy in trivia, family card and board games, crossword puzzles and reading whodunits. She participated in many activities at church for several years, including leading Sunday School for a time. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful gardens, where she planted flowers every spring. She adored her pets, which were almost exclusively Scottish terriers: Dudley, Adelaide and Alice, along with one beloved rescue mutt named Trek. Mary and Bill loved to travel and took many trips, including a few out west and an official honeymoon to Cozumel to satisfy Mary’s need for a beach and Bill’s need to explore and take lots of pictures. Mary touched the lives of many with her wit, kindness and gentle demeanor. Above all else, she cherished the moments spent with her loved ones. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A Memorial Service for Mary will be held Saturday, June 1st, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Farmington, 26165 Farmington Rd., Farmington Hills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary’s name may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Farmington.
