Bernice Szymanski, age 97 of Farmington Hills, passed away June 4, 2024. She was born February 28, 1927 in Hamtramck, Michigan to Alexander and Helena Lapinski. As a Lieutenant Colonel with U.S. Army Reserve, Bernice was proud to serve her country and was a charter member of the P.L.A.V. Post #165 in Warren. She devoted many years to her career as a nurse anesthetist, also teaching and serving on the board for the University of Detroit Mercy Nurse Anesthetist Program. Upon retirement, Bernice dedicated much of her time volunteering for Meals on Wheels in Farmington Hills. She was a devout parishioner of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, eventually joining the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic community. Bernice was the beloved wife of the late Eugene. She is survived by her dear nieces and nephews, and her step-son David Szymanski. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward, and her sister Geraldine. Visitation for Mrs. Szymanski will be held on Wednesday, June 12th, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of her Rosary Service at 12:30 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. Following the Rosary Service, she will be laid to rest in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, with military honors and committal prayers taking place at 2:30 p.m.
