Robert C. Dodt, 86, passed away June 14 in Canton, Michigan, after a short illness and complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Robert was born in Garden City, Michigan, to Emily K. and Raymond C. Dodt. The family moved to Dearborn in the 1940’s. Robert graduated from his neighborhood Fordson High School in 1955 and obtained a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Detroit. His future spouse Elaine lived a few blocks away and they were introduced by friends on a double date that included a late autumn hayride in the moonlight. They married in 1959, moved to West Dearborn in 1963 and would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this November. Robert’s professional career in the field of mechanical and hydraulics engineering and safety engineering included positions with Vickers, Inc., Chrysler Corporation and Ford Motor Company where he retired in 1995. He served briefly as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and in the police force reserve in Dearborn. He moved with Elaine to Canton in 2021. Robert is survived by his wife Elaine (nee Moraniec), his children, Jeffry (Patricia), Matthew (Pamela), Andrew, Teresa (Michael) Harris, John (Ronald Batac), Adam Carey (Michael Hodge), and Chava (Baruch) Kintisch, and his grandchildren, Kevin Dodt and Kiana Harris.
