Margaret "Mickey" Morbach

September 25, 1932 - August 4, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we share the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Mickey Morbach, who passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, as she approached her 93rd birthday.

Born Margaret Anne Miller on September 25, 1932, in Kansas City, MO, her family later moved to Omaha, NE. As a child, she had the opportunity to meet legendary actor Mickey Rooney, who was filming the movie Boys Town in Omaha. Mom was awe-struck! In the days that followed, she spoke of nothing but “Mickey.” Ultimately, her family lovingly anointed her with the nickname “Mickey,” and that became her preferred name.

Mickey met and fell in love with her brother’s friend, Don Morbach. The two married on July 28, 1951. They spent the first 10 years of their marriage in Omaha, where Mickey had her first six sons: Tony, Terry, Tim, Toby, Tom, and Ted. In 1961, when Theresa was born, Mickey was featured in the local newspaper for finally having a girl. With six young sons and a newborn daughter, Don and Mickey moved their family to Detroit, MI, in 1961.

They quickly adapted to life in Detroit, forging friendships that would last a lifetime. While in Detroit, Mickey welcomed twins, Todd and Tina, and eventually moved to Livonia, where Tami was born. With their family complete—and too large for their small Livonia home—they relocated to West Bloomfield.

During these formative years of raising children, Mom would sing or hum around the house, modeling her belief that every moment is worthy of happiness and appreciation. Mickey lived her life by a simple but profound truth: “It’s the spirit in which something is done that matters most.” It wasn’t grand gestures, but quiet, thoughtful acts of love that defined her life—stocking her pantry with her guests’ favorite snacks or arriving at your door with a small gift, simply because it reminded her of you.

As her children grew, Mom became more involved in numerous charitable organizations. She joined a singing group that visited schools for special needs children. Every Tuesday, Mom donned her toy soldier costume, adorned her cheeks with vibrant red lipstick circles, and brought joy to countless children and their families.

She was also actively involved with the Catholic Church, where she sang alto in the choir and chaired funeral luncheons for parishioners. In fact, as recently as last Christmas—despite her failing breath and voice—she still managed to keep up with the Victorian Carolers when they visited her.

Mickey also volunteered at a soup kitchen in Pontiac, arriving early in the morning to help prepare meals for the area’s hungry or offer a listening ear to those in need.

Mickey and Don eventually retired to Plant City, Florida, in 1990, where they built more lasting friendships and where Mom volunteered at the local hospital. When the Florida humidity became overbearing, they moved north to Georgia to be closer to family. While in Georgia, Mom lost her beloved husband of 62 years.

Afterward, she began what we lovingly called her “national tour,” living with her children in Texas and Michigan. The COVID-19 pandemic brought her home-hopping to an end, and she entered assisted living in 2021.

We were blessed that her final home was with Pleasant Valley Family Care, a private family home. While there, the Pleasant Valley family cared for Mom as one of their own—with unwavering patience and grace—and gave her the opportunity to interact with their children, something she cherished.

Mom greeted everyone with her magnetic smile, and through her eyes, she saw only the good in those around her. She instilled values of compassion, hard work, and loyalty. She will be remembered for her grace, warmth, and quiet strength.

She was but one woman—but she was our universe, our axis, our love.

Mickey is survived by her children Terry (Patricia), Tim (Jean), Tom (Connie), Ted (Nancy) Morbach, Theresa (Tom) Angott, Tina (Todd) Nagaitis, and Tami (David) White; her grandchildren Mark, Scott, Michael, Joe, Jeannette, Daniel, Patrick, Jonathan, Stephine Morbach, Tom, Kelly, Mitchell Angott, Ashleigh Kitchens, Nicholle Nagaitis, Sienna and Hayden White; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Don Morbach; her sons, Tony, Toby, and Todd Morbach; and her siblings, Mary Kay Miller O'Donnell and Patrick Miller.

Visitation for Mickey will be held on Sunday, August 10th, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. She will lie in state on Monday, August 11th, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, 3700 Commerce Rd., West Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mickey's name may be directed to Choice Hospice, 12500 E. 13 Mile Rd., Warren, MI 48093 or Franciscan Brothers of Peace (Attn: Brother Conrad), 1289 Lafond Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55104.
