Katherine Hanaway

August 16, 1939 - November 19, 2025

Kathrine Sue Hanaway, better known as Kate, was a warm and gentle light in the lives of all who knew her. Her time here on earth was marked by love and family, as well as an unwavering commitment to the Lord. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and storyteller.

Born on August 16th, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio, she was welcomed into the Wittman family by Ralph and Grace Wittman with her brother Ralph Wittman Jr., better known as Bud.

After overcoming polio as a young girl, Kate enjoyed a childhood of love and laughter, often found by a piano with her friends and family. After her wedding on November 22nd, 1958, to Ronald Lee Hanaway, Kathrine studied at the University of Toledo and graduated from Wayne State University, after which she began her career as a teacher. She and Ron enjoyed many nights of live music with Ron’s band. In the late 60s, began the next phase of their journey by welcoming Patrick and Michael into their lives, completing the family. Kathrine enjoyed raising their children while helping behind the scenes to push the family business towards its success. Kathrine and Ron would enjoy their later years as grandparents, celebrating with family over music, movies, and dinner parties.

After Ron’s passing, she would spend her days reading, knitting, and visiting with family either in her home in Farmington, or her cottage in Monroe.

Katherine was the beloved wife of the late Ronald. Loving mother of Patrick and Michael. Proud grandmother of Zachery (Sarah) and Katherine. Dear sister of Ralph (Diana) Wittman, Jr. She will also be remembered by many loving extended family members.

Visitation for Mrs. Hanaway will be held on Wednesday, November 26th, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m., at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. Following the service, Mrs. Hanaway will be laid to rest in Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.
