Eileen M. Sands, age 85, of Canton, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026. She was born on September 20, 1940, in Detroit to Edmund and Stella Wilamowski. Shortly after graduating from Denby High School, Eileen began her career with the Detroit Public Library. It was there, among the bookshelves, that she met the love of her life, Roger Sands. As family legend has it, Roger happened to be down on one knee when Eileen approached. Looking up, he remarked that since he was already in the proper position, he might as well propose. Though they did not marry that day, the two soon began dating and were married a short time later. They started their life together in Westland, raising their family, before eventually settling in Canton. Eileen’s love of books shaped both her career and her hobbies. She worked for many years as a librarian, beginning with the Detroit Public Library and retiring from the Wayne-Westland School District where she spent the majority of her years in the library at PD. Graham Elementary School. Reading was one of her greatest pleasures, especially mystery novels. True to her practical nature, Eileen disliked surprises and was known to read the first and last chapters before continuing a book. British detective mysteries were among her favorites, both on the page and on television. Highly organized and meticulous in all that she did, Eileen approached life with precision and quiet pride. Whether at work or at home, she completed every task with care and efficiency. Her sharp fashion instincts and enthusiasm for shopping defined her signature style. Always perfectly coordinated and sporting her trademark curly hair, she carried herself with grace and style. If she had one indulgence, it was her sweet tooth; a small pleasure she never denied herself. Above all else, family was the center of Eileen’s life. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she and Roger cherished every moment spent with them, especially their frequent trips to Greenfield Village. Her loving nature extended to her beloved Pekingese. Eileen was the devoted wife of the late Roger Sands for 53 years. She was a loving mother to Elizabeth (Brian) Buckmaster and Cynthia (Thomas) Primeau, and a proud grandmother to Claire and Jude Primeau. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Meahan, and was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Williams. Those wishing to honor Eileen’s memory may make a donation to the Michigan Humane Society. Arrangements were entrusted to McCabe Funeral Home, Canton.Eileen M. Sands
