I Remember...

Fred had a great smile and an infectious laugh. He was fun to be around. Always willing to help out and lead by example. He sold me two of his cars - Torino and Monterey. Fred took me to see a Lions game at Tiger Stadium (many years ago) when Bubba Smith was playing - another Michigan State alumni. I wish I had spent more time with you in the last few years and tell you just how much you mean to me and how much I love you.

Fond memories of my cousin, him learning to water ski, his buddies leaving our old jalopy on top of a building at Michigan State, his wedding amid the Detroit riots, and also his eulogy at my mom's funeral. It's the circle of life. Rest well in Jesus' arms, dear cousin!

My idol when I was 7 years old. One morning followed him on his paper route with just socks on my feet. Fortunately a short route but I still had no material left on the bottom of the socks. No one could make me laugh harder at that age. Even when I was older, he had a way of bringing out an infectious grin around the people he was near. You grow up and move away but the memories stay. I didn't realize that it was 49 years since I was in his and Judy's wedding; cut short by the curfew in Detroit. Fred was their to pitch in when he could and I am proud to have known him and be related.

Fred was someone I always looked up to and admired. He had a gift of making us laugh. He was the best apple peeler for mom's delicious pies; he also peeled apples and helped me make mud pies in the backyard. When I had broken my collarbone and had to sleep in the living-room chair, Fred would come home late at night after a long days work for Uncle Ed and take the time to sit and talk with me. Those talks meant a lot to me. Throughout my entire life he was always there to lend a hand, give advice or just to listen. He was my hero and I will miss him.

What I admired most was his love for his family, including ours despite the flaws. He did have an infectious and that I still envision when him and my father joked around. I remember Fred coming to our house with Judy after she got her engagement ring. I tried to trade with her the one my father had just bought me, after my Fred and my father convinced me mine was real. Fred was always respectful and a gentleman to our family. The memories will never be forgotten. See you in the resurrection Fred! Love Christa

My life has been richly blessed by knowing and sharing many holidays, birthdays and social gatherings with Fred, Judy and the Alexander family. I will remember Fred as not only a gentleman but also a gentle caring man. When I had my back surgery in 1987, Fred took the time out of his busy life to visit me in the hospital; that always meant a lot to me. His sense of humor was infectious and added enjoyment to family get-togethers. He was a true friend; more like a brother to me, always willing to help and give good sound advice. Although you will be definitely missed, it is comforting knowing now you are no longer suffering and at peace in a far better place.
