I Remember...

I remember when I received a call from Marilyn that she and Jim were in Scottsdale, AZ for a short visit. We had a very nice lunch where we got caught up on how all our friends were doing and what was happening at HOM. I got a chance to visit with them both while they were here. Over the years there were many hospice balls and dinners where Joe and I had the chance to spend some time with Marilyn and Jim. I even had the opportunity to meet many members of the family and worked with a few. I wish I could be there but since I can't, I hope the love and support of friends and family will give you comfort in this difficult time.

Jim Brady was a friend for over 40 years. He was my best friend for many years. We met at Dunham Lake subdivision in Highland Township when we were raising our children in one of the greatest communities. Summer at Dunham Lake was a focal point. Jim was passionate about his family, politics and sports. For years Jim and I brought our young children on a pilgrimage to Tiger Stadium to watch a Tigers game. Of course we had to stop at Nemo's on Michigan Avenue before the game to have dinner and immerse our kids in Detroit lore. Jim attended numerous Michigan-Notre Dame games at Michigan Stadium. One year I went with Jim to South Bend where Notre Dame defeated my beloved Wolverines. Was that the game the wind which had blown all game suddenly stopped so Notre Dame could kick a winning field goal right into the open arms of Touchdown Jesus? Jim, Marilyn and family helped me on numerous campaigns and attended numerous fundraisers and parties. Jim's role at these events included introducing me including the time he said it was a typical Bullard fundraiser--we have a belly dancer, a midget and numerous politicians! When I had the opportunity to serve as Oakland County Clerk in 2011-2012 I brought Jim on as a part time employee. With his great personality and "gift of gab" Jim was very popular with all the ladies in the Clerk's office. I will miss Jim very greatly. But his legacy lives on with Marilym, Matt. Erin and Jimmy and his grandchildren! I will miss him tremendously!

Our neighborhood picnics at the cul-de-sac on Labor Day. And all the football pool parties at our houses. Jim will be very much missed. He was much too young.
