I Remember...

My daughter Twila played with Christie several times at Ardis' home in Southfield. Ardis was kind and friendly to us.

I was always so excited to go to Grama's house. She always went out of her way to provide a warm and friendly environment for the grandkids. There was never a doubt that she loved us! As I grew a little older, hearing about her amazing life was fascinating to me. From growing up in the depression, to meeting Vernon, to moving across the entire country, her courage and bravery to do all that, while providing a loving home inspired me. Her love for Grandpa and her relationship advice in my teens was a guide for me in my relationships and my marriage. I have told Allison that my biggest wish would be for her and Ava to have met her sooner. I love you Grama and am glad that you are reunited with Grampa in Heaven.

I remember the wonderful stories that Maureen would tell us at Virginia Tile about Ardis especially about their lovely home and family.

It seems that whatever mom put her mind to was done to the best of her ability. She invested her life into 4 basic areas: her relationship with the Lord, her husband, her family and others. Much time was spent in the details that made things extra special like: making little turkeys for each place setting at Thanksgiving, completing all of the paperwork after walking the neighborhood asking for donations for the cancer drive, taking her kids for ice cream after the family cleanup at the schoolyard. Her sewing machine became a semi- permanent feature on the dining room table where she sewed quilts for family, clothes for herself and girls, costumes and baby blankets for Prject Linus. She was one of Red Cross' most faithful blood donors, having given about 26 gallons during her lifetime. She,like we, had her flaws, but her greatest joy was each family member and she showed us in the ways that mean so much. We love you mama.
