I Remember...

When I was young I went to your Dad for my eye exams and glasses. Did this for many years. Your Dad was so patient & kind. Your Mom was very sweet and helped me pick out glasses. I am so sorry for your loss. Will keep you in our prayers.

I have been reminiscing a lot about my Mother and Father who died within about 1 year of each other and I am thankful for all the wonderful times with them. They lived a very active life and we all enjoyed trying to keep up with their energetic pace whenever we played tennis, cards, vacationed or celebrated holidays with them. My Dad knew so many people that it seemed like most of the time when I went with him to the store, restaurant or even on vacation from Mackinaw to Florida and everywhere in between, he always recognized someone he knew from his past. He always made time to socialize with them and he always proudly introduced all of us to them. He always spoke so highly of all of his family, friends and patients and I never remember him or my Mother ever saying anything bad about anyone. He always loved to tell jokes and the jokes were never offensive. Throughout their lives, my parents always took the time to faithfully attend the many weddings, graduations, funerals and any other significant event of friends, family and his patients who he considered both family and friend. I am sure they are now celebrating together once again after all these years. Mel Tormé (famous composer/high school prodigy who wrote The Christmas Song "Chestnuts Roasting Over an Open Fire") graduated from Hyde Park High School about 10 years before my Mom; during High School she wrote an Essay and casually mentioned that she liked to sing and her teacher made her sing in front of her entire High School class (her teacher probably knew Mel Tormé). My Mom had a great voice and we often sang the The Christmas Song together (regardless of the season) and then enjoyed her extremely delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies. I saw my Mother in a dream the other night; she looked like she was in her thirties (sounds like an age she would pick) and she was in a swimming pool (it may have been our neighbor's pool we used to take care of when they went on vacation) in her favorite yellow bathing suit, laughing and splashing in the water with a really big smile. In the bible, God spoke to people in dreams and dreams can be interpreted in many different ways, but I know how I am going to interpret this dream. When I think of my Mom now, I often see her as I did in that dream and I think about how much we all appreciated all the great times we had whenever we were all together. I feel very blessed to have had such wonderful parents. Throughout my entire life, they always trusted me and patiently supported me in all my successes and in all my failures and I know that I could not have succeeded without their continuous faith, hope and love for God and for me. They truly loved their entire family and all of their friends and although I miss them both so much everyday, I am glad for them that they are now together in heaven.
