I Remember...

Childhood memories! Kat was not family by blood, but she felt like a cousin. She always lit the room with her smile and contagious laughter, which is a trait she carried her whole life. We grew apart after my family moved back to Chile, but we visited every once in a while. I always remember her sense of fashion and how she moved through life like she owned it! Thank you, cousin for teaching me about confidence, living life by the moment, and the power of laughter. Your memories lives bright within those who had the privilege to have known you. Peace and love.

So our birthdays were only 4 days apart. You were turning 15 and me 16! We convinced our parents to let us have a party together at Potomac club!!!! It was epic!!! I am so sorry to hear this news.....my heart is broken. But you were so strong and so beautiful I know you are ok.

Kat and I got stuck in an elevator downtown Detroit at the Ponch and been friends ever since. Favorite memory/recent memory...Dancing w Luis-Kat and Cara Monday @ Moodyman 's BBQ. Cara Monday wishes she could be here today. Her sister and I are here. (Rogena Monday). Kat was the brightest light in the room and her smile and soul - One of a kind. Kat will be forever missed.

Kat told me that right before her mom passed that her moms wishes were to go the casino, have fun all night, have wine, smoke weed (medicinal for a cancer patient). Kat smiled sincerely with a tear in her eye and laughed. That made a big impact on me. That story is helping me to cope now with Kat gone. After such an accident that could have killed her nieces and nephews, I have to believe that somehow her soul knew to take that hit. To be at that place at that time. So I will celebrate Kat's life as if she willingly knew that she would get killed to prevent an accident that could have killed her whole family. I love you Kat. I loved your soft side and I respected your tough side. Your spirit will not be sent away into the abyss.

Kat always being trustworthy from day one. I honestly felt like it is an honor to be her friend and she feels the same way about me. Too many stories to tell so many memories. It's typical of Kat to leave the Earth being the superhero she has always been. I am gonna miss you sis.

I did not read the fine print that these are visible to everyone. They should really make that disclaimer bigger.

Correction to the Vaseline story: Kat needed hair products because her sabbatical had lasted a day or so longer than expected. Billy is Brown and bald so he did not have anything but vaseline for anything that could go in hair. Kat was very polite and greatly appreciated Billy's efforts to help her with her styling needs until she went back home. This was before she moved to Washington Square Apartments. Kat just knew I would have gel and such and all the good hair products she would want to use, and that I would be kind enough to help her in her fashion emergency lol.

Last but not least I will always remember how I met Kat. It was summer after graduating high school in 2000, I was hanging out with Ryan Curtis (passed from addiction in 2006) at his house in Sylvan at the corner of Myra and Susan st. Kat was over with her long braided ponytail. When she left, I said to Ryan, "hey she seems really cool, I like her." He told me something like "Kat is one of the only real ones I know in the scene of all the girls. If you grow to keep hanging out, stick near her and be like her, she knows how to stay out of trouble."

I will also remember that Kat gave me my first graphic design gig for the Album cover for Dwayne Jensen (passed from diabetes, ironically Kat's biggest fear of death). I will also remember that long braided ponytail she used to wear for so long. For years I always recognized her head in a crowd.

Then there was that more recent time when I actually got Kat to "embrace" cilantro. Or as she called it "cilantr-NO," because she hates cilantro. I was learning how to make herbal remedy baths and knowing how much she also liked homemade therapeutic baths she asked me to make one for her. The recipe calls for cilantro because it is very good for the skin and hair. She actually sat in a bath of cilantro because she trusted me. It is true that cilantro is good for the skin and it full of antioxidants. But I was really flattered that she would suffer like that to try my full bath recipe lol.

I will always remember that time about 10-12 years ago when Kat called me while she was "camping in the D" with Billy Love. She needed more toiletries because Billy tried to style her hair with Vaseline lol. We all met up at Niki's Pizza for dinner while she and Billy helped me design my first tattoo I was getting that week. We got so excited about tattoos that we almost went to go get invisible glow in the dark tattoos with the letters f-u-c-k y-o-u on our knuckles. Thank goodness there aren't any tattoo parlors open after midnight with glow in the dark ink. That night was hilarious.
