He was the loving husband of Elaine for 62 years; devoted father of Linda Slotnick, Tom Jr. (Kathy), Mike (Beth), late Yvonne, late Barbra, late Judy, Bob (Nancy), and Rick (Betty) Lorenz; cherished grandfather of Katelyn, Kristin (Steve), and Kevin Slotnick, Tom III, Elyse (Glenn), Mike Jr. (Nicole), Kathryn, Kelly (Stephen), Bob Jr., Maria, Rick Jr. (Erin), and Tom Lorenz (Valerie); caring great grandfather of Sophia Lorenz; and dearest brother of Jean (William) Rogers, late Robert (Maxine), and late Jim (late Sharon). Tom was born on August 21, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to Linus and Edith Lorenz. He graduated from U of D Jesuit High School and went onto receive his bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit Mercy and his master’s degree from Wayne State University. Tom’s life changed when he met Elaine Longhway at a dance (Quinn Six) in the Jesuit parish. The two fell in love and were married in 1957. Shortly after, they welcomed eight children into their home. From these eight children came twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Tom gave many years of dedication to Ford Motor Company as a mechanical engineer and could be referred to as the quintessential ‘Ford Motor’ guy, always proud of his hard work. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer. Tom and Elaine were also ‘snow birds’ traveling to Naples, FL to spend their winter months and to northern Michigan for their fall. He was a devout Catholic who enjoyed attending parish functions and playing bridge with his fellow parishioners. Tom’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He enjoyed the big family get-togethers, especially during the holidays. Tom’s life will be remembered and treasured as he was truly a man of God.

Tom’s visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 pm. with a 7 p.m. Rosary Service at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills.
