Joseph P. Yuhas

April 2, 1947 - July 7, 2016

Joseph Yuhas was born on April 2, 1947 at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit Michigan.  His father, Joseph Andrew Yuhas, was a soft-spoken and understanding man.  He was a dedicated employee at Chrysler.  His mother, Anne (Tamasauskas), was a very caring and loving woman.  She was hardworking and was employed by Dodge. Together, Joseph and Anne were warm and supportive parents.

Joseph grew up in a very close-knit neighborhood in the suburbs of Detroit.  He had one sister, Ruth, who was 13 years older than him.  The children attended Catholic school growing up.

When he was younger, Joseph enjoyed playing musical instruments like the Hawaiian guitar.  He was quite the artist and loved to draw.  He also excelled in academics and was very bright.  He was fortunate to have a best friend, Joe Randazzo, who was more like a brother than a friend.

As Joseph grew up, his love of art and music remained.  He added working on cars to his hobbies and spent a lot of time with friends.

Joseph graduated from St. Gregory Catholic High School in 1965.  He continued his education at Lawrence Tech in Southfield and then continued his training in computers from IBM.  He would work and retire from IBM after 40 years in computer programming.

Joseph proudly served his country in the Air Force.  He worked his way up to Sergeant and spent most of his time in communications.  Although he had many fond stories from the service, he often spoke of his time spent in Iceland as being his favorite assignment.

Joseph married his once childhood friend turned sweetheart, Marlene.  The couple welcomed two daughters, Denice and Diane, into their family.  Later in life he met Susan Jakobcic while working for Data Image and the two spent 22 wonderful years together.

Joseph made sure to balance his hard work with hobbies and fun.  He loved playing cards, boating, golfing, bird watching and enjoying nature in general.  He was a huge Detroit Tigers fan.  He had a big interest in anything that had to do with aircraft, often attending air shows and even a space shuttle launch in Florida. He enjoyed cooking and was an excellent “chef”.  He continued to find enjoyment throughout his life in his art and music. He spent time painting and carving birds and animals as well as played instruments—most recently the organ and was quite accomplished.  He was very talented at woodworking from restoring furniture to refinishing a full size Chris-Craft in Mahogany.

Eventually Joseph was able to retire and began a new and semi-relaxed phase of his life.  He and Susan became “snowbirds” and split their time between summers in Northville, MI and winters in Florida. During the Florida months, he enjoyed taking road trips, golfing and club house activities. He and Susan most enjoyed visiting their many friends and welcomed visitors and family into their home often.

Throughout his life, Joseph remained a caring, present and dependable father to Denice and Diane.  He was full of life and fun and passed to them his love of adventure, the outdoors and nature.  His children and grandchildren, Vance and Dante, will remember his cute pet name " Little Bugger", for all cute things really, but most fondly used for his grandsons.

Joseph had described his greatest joys in his life to Susan as being his Daughters.  He was a loving partner, father and grandfather and a true friend to all.  He was blessed with a wonderful personality, a genuine and contagious smile, a great laugh and kind eyes.  He will be remembered for his generous spirit and his true love of life.

Joseph P. Yuhas passed away at age 69 on July 7, 2016.  He was the loving partner of Susan Jakobcic.  He was the dear father of Denice (Bill) Herman and Diane (Russ) Stipanovich.  He was the proud grandfather of Vance and Dante.
