Constantine "Gus" Spanos

Christos Anesti!

Constantine D. Spanos, age 70, of Bloomfield Hills, passed away May 1, 2020.

Constantine "Gus" was the devoted husband of Aspacia "Patty" Spanos for 42 years. He was the adoring father of Anastasia C. Spanos, JoAnna C. Spanos, and loving father to son-in-law Daniel Hildreth.  Gus was the endeared “Papou” of Niko Constantine Hildreth (4), and baby Sia Rose Hildreth (9 months).

His mother and father, Kalypso and Dionysios, were both born in Kyparissia, Greece in the town of Spilia. Gus grew up in Detroit with his (late) brother Tom Spanos, and (late) sister Anastasia (Spanos) Demopoulos, and met his eldest brother, Apostolos (Paul) Spanos at the age of twenty when Paul came to America from Greece. He was brother through marriage and best “buddy” to George Matheos. “Uncle Gus” was also adored by his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  Gus was also a loving godfather and sponsored many into the faith.

He was an active member of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church community, served multiple terms on the parish council, and was a popular emcee for fundraising events. Always proud of his Greek roots, Gus cherished his participation in AHEPA Chapter 391, and in March joyfully attended a 50-year reunion with friends from The Sons of Pericles.

At the age of 47 Gus co-founded Associated Dealer Services with business partner and cherished friend Mike Klass. He was well known and regarded in the automotive community within which he created lifelong friendships that brought him much joy.

Vibrant, gregarious, and the life of the party, to know Gus was to love him instantly. He always had a smile, joke, or laugh to share. Gus could charm a complete stranger. It is no surprise that he is survived by so many dear friends, many of whom he has known for decades. He was an integral part of many circles; his golf buddies, cigar buddies, lunch buddies, and card buddies. He nurtured these friendships and they continued to grow and bring him joy. Gus was a lover of life, good food, and above all his wife and girls. His memory will live on through his beloved family and friends.

Everyone who knew Gus is heartbroken by the news of his passing. Gus touched so many lives, leaving behind a big void. He was a man of strong faith, and his family has been comforted by the outpouring of thoughts and prayers for him during this difficult time. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and always trusted in the power of God.

Due to current circumstances, private family services will be held and a Memorial will be planned for a future date. Constantine will be laid to rest at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, Michigan.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
