Roy Martell-Bowen

January 9, 1932 - May 8, 2021

Roy S. Martell-Bowen, age 89 of Farmington Hills, passed away May 8, 2021.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Pontiac, Michigan by a devoted single mother, Roy found early in life his love and dedication for God, family and country. He attended and graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy where he met his future wife, Jeanette. After proudly serving our country in the United States Navy, Roy and Jeanette’s journey began with the birth of their only daughter, Gabrielle.

As a husband and father, Roy was simply amazing. His pride and joy came from raising and doting on Gabrielle and the relationship they shared was truly special. He instilled the proper values and hard work ethic as a father should, all while making sure she wanted for nothing. Roy worked very hard to make sure he and his family were able to enjoy life. His love of animals was quickly passed down to Gabrielle. It was Roy who started Gabrielle on her journey with horses as the two of them took riding lessons together when she was young, and went on to buy Gabrielle her first horse. It was one of many bonds they shared. Together, Roy and Jeanette looked forward to their travel adventures. Always enjoying each other’s company, so many great memories were made along the way. As time went on, Roy looked forward to the next chapter in life, becoming a grandfather. He was thrilled to give them even more of his time and energy. His grandchildren meant everything to him, and he was so proud of each one.

Whether meeting for the first time, or knowing him for years; one could always expect Roy to be at his best. He took great pride in his appearance. Not a hair out of place, he dressed well and always looked good. Roy was also very active and health conscious. If he wasn’t spending time in his home gym, you could find him running or biking around the neighborhood. More times than not, he was accompanied by his dog Kaiser, who he had no problem spoiling on a daily basis.

Roy fought hard throughout the final years of his life. Now resting peacefully with his Lord, the legacy he leaves is that of pure love for his family. He will be missed deeply, and his memory treasured forever.

He was the beloved husband of Jeanette for 56 years. Cherished father of Gabrielle (David) Sack. Proud grandfather of Matthew, Katherine, Alexander, Adam and Evan.
