Freddie “Fred” Ong, of West Bloomfield, beloved husband of Betty Ong for 39 years, devoted son of Shee Fon and Sim Ong, faithful brother of Doo Kong Yee and Fung Kong Chu, caring father of Jennifer and Jonathon, and doting Grandfather of Annabeth, Calvin, Owen, and Maxwell passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family following a 2-year battle with lung cancer on June 3rd, 2021.

Fred was born on July 5, 1951 and raised in Detroit where he would spend the majority of his life and called his home. He attended Cass Technical High School and went on to the University of Michigan, where he earned a bachelors and masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Fred served nearly 30 years at Ford Motor company with increasing roles of responsibility. After retirement in 2007, he became a tutor at Oakland Community College, working with students in developing math skills.  He was an avid golfer throughout his life playing weekly with friends and got his hole in one at Fox Hills Golf Club. A zealous fan of U of M Wolverine athletics, he held season tickets for U of M football where he attended every home game.

Fred was a generous, kind, and selfless man. He made regular donations to educational, health, and cultural charities. He'll always be remembered as someone who wouldn't hesitate to give his time or energy to help you. He genuinely cared for his family and friends and was devoted to ensuring their safety, well being, and best quality of life. His steadfast goodness will be the legacy he left for future generations.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, June 9th, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Funeral Services Thursday, June 10th, 10:30 a.m. both at McCabe Funeral Home, 31950 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills. The family respectfully requests all guests wear masks while indoors.  Following funeral services, Fred will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Memorial Gardens, Livonia. To celebrate his life and favorite pastime, all friends and family are invited to join us for a meal at the Tin Cup Bar and Grill overlooking the golf course.
